Food Distribution
Every year during the month of Ramadan, ZIDO and its volunteers distribute $150,000 USD worth of basic staple foods across several villages in Zanzibar and Pemba.
Each food aid package consists of items such as – rice, cooking oil, flour, dates, beans, tea and sugar… amongst many other essential items.
In a very organized manner, we allocate packages to the most needy families with the help of the “Sheha” (village chief).
Preparation begins 8 weeks in advance with ZIDO volunteers sourcing and purchasing the essential items before surge pricing occurs closer to Ramadan. Our hard-working volunteers package items throughout this period ensuring we ready for the 1st of Ramadan.
Recipients include – the very poor, widows and orphans, physically and mentally challenged, people living in very remote areas.
